Worldwide Recognition for Tower Oaks building
A Maharishi Vastu building has just been recognized as one of the world’s greenest buildings.
2000 Tower Oaks Blvd., the 195,000 sf Maharishi Vastu office building built by The Tower Companies is one of just 57 buildings worldwide that are the subject of the new book,The World’s Greenest Buildings: Promise vs. Performance in Sustainable Design, written by Jerry Yudelson and Ulf Meyer.
This Vastu building, which is the first LEED® Platinum certified multi-tenant commercial office building in the US capital of Washington, DC, was also used as a Harvard Business School case study that focused on both energy efficiency and the effects of Maharishi Vastu design and construction on its tenants. If you would like to read the case study go here.
The objective of this book was to find out whether green buildings actually realize their promise of significantly reducing energy consumption and water usage through detailed, comparative research findings. This is the main question to be answered in order to convince the global building industry to embrace sustainable technology.
Among its worldwide subjects its Asian buildings were built in Japan, Taiwan, Singapore, Australia, India and China; in Europe it included buildings in Germany, the UK, France, Finland, Ireland, the Netherlands, Sweden, the Czech Republic and Switzerland; in the Americas buildings from Chile, Canada and the US were included.
In a recent article in Citybizlist, a Washington, DC. real estate publication, co-author Yudelson stated, “What I especially admire about 2000 Tower Oaks Blvd. is the adaptation of ancient Indian [Vedic] architectural principles to a modern office design and the commitment of the owners to both a super green building and also one that is alive with the energetic connections to the site outside and the people inside. We need more innovations of this type to deal both with climate change issues and the growing need for healthy, productive workspaces.”
In demonstrating their on-going commitment to the environment, The Tower Companies have continued to refine and enhance the energy performance of the building and have recently added evem more sustainable features. It is quite inspiring to read the actual experiences of those working in this building and you can do so at: www.maharishivastu.org/testimonials. Click on Working in Maharishi Vastu Office Buildings.

Louis Sullivan symposia
A symposium of distinguished speakers recently met with over 100 participants to celebrate and reflect on the centenary of a major building designed by the great American architect Louis Sullivan. The participants at the event, held in Cedar Rapids, Iowa USA on May 4, included Jon Lipman, AIA, deputy minister of Maharishi Vastu Architecture, along with the director of the Iowa State Historical Society, an architecture critic from the New York Times, and the editor of Iowa Architect magazine.
Sullivan is considered one of the greatest American architects of the late 19th- early 20thth centuries and was mentor to the world-famous architect Frank Lloyd Wright Four of his buildings are found in the state of Iowa. As a past president of the Frank Lloyd Wright Building Conservatory, Jon has frequently spoken at symposia devoted to architectural history. One defining aspect of Sullivan’s work was his commitment to the ideals of transcendentalism as it was propounded by Ralph Waldo Emerson. Sullivan felt he could help the public to the experience of unity with nature--at the core of the transcendentalist ideals--through his building designs. It was to this principle that Jon spoke; he described to the audience that Maharishi Vedic architecture is the fulfillment of this principle because its basis is Natural Law. And, people who live and work in Vastu buildings have the experience of unity with natural law and the environment on a very deep level. The audience listened with rapt attention as Jon described Maharishi Vedic architecture as the 21st century’s most significant trend in architecture. Afterward, many expressed a strong desire to come to Fairfield to learn more about Vedic architecture and see its principles in action.
It is thrilling to see architects and lay people finding the true basis of ideal architecture in the principles of Maharishi Vedic architecture.

Recent articles on Maharishi Vastu homes
Two recent magazine articles have recognized Maharishi Vastu homes.
The American Airlines premium class in-flight magazine, Celebrated Living, features an article called “Cleaning House” which details the current healthy home movement in home building. It recognizes Maharishi Vastu architecture as the earliest proponent of this trend and mentions Maharishi Vedic city and Karu Architects, a firm in North Carolina that was intimately involved in the MVA development there.
A second article in the print version of a log homes magazine featured a wonderful home in rural Pennsylvania built 10 years ago.
The structure featured was originally intended as a garage/apartment with the main house to built later. But, as the owners enjoyed getting away to their Vastu retreat more and more, they converted the entire space for living. Construction has just begun on the main house.
